This is CultureLink's flagship program. It is a one-on-one befriending program, which facilitates friendships between individuals, newcomers and volunteers from the host community. People are matched for 4-6 months on the basis of gender, age, and residential location.

The new friends are expected to maintain weekly contact of at least 2 hours for conversation and social interaction.

Eligibility Criteria

Volunteers:

• Must have a minimum of 3 years living in Toronto
• Must be fluent in English
• Must be 19 years or older

Newcomers:

• Must bring immigration papers or PR card
• Less than 3 years living in Toronto

CultureLink’s Host Program provides friendship matching to people who live South of Eglinton Avenue, West of Yonge Street, South to Lake Ontario and West to the border of Etobicoke and Mississauga.

CultureLink’s expectation is a minimum of 6 months in a Host match.
