Cluster 5

The Settlement & Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT), is a join program between Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Citizenship and Immigration Canada(CIC) & Culturelink to work together with community resources to offer services to new Canadian students and families.

In cluster 5 there are 24 schools and 13 School settlement Workers with deferent language skills such as Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Somali, Mandarin, Russian, Cantonese, Tamil, Spanish, Creoles, Patios, Sinhalese, Tibetan and Filipino. School Settlement Workers are placed in Schools and offer settlement services to every newcomer there. Occasionally they move among schools as well as across clusters in the city to deliver services where newcomer students and families need access to services based on their language and settlement needs.

SERVICES PROVIDED Y SETTLEMENT WORKER

• One -on- one Settlement Support
• Information sessions and workshops for parents and students on settlement issues such as orientation to the   educational system and community resources
• Referrals of newcomer students and families to services that facilitate settlement and adjustment to Canada and Assist newcomer students and families with information about:
• Community services, Day-care, Dental Assistance, Employment, English classes (LINC &   ESL), English Conversation Circle, Employment insurance, Family benefits and Welfare, Health Coverage (OHIP), Housing and renting, Host Program (how to meet a Canadian Friend),How to start a small Business in Canada, Recreational activities for students and family in School, Public Libraries, And much, much more .....
